Penpals

Hi, my name is Gary, and I am a person who is bipolar. A label, but it does not define me. It only helps me to understand what behaviors I have (though unique) are ones that needed managed, and also reminds me that I need to choose hope one day at a time. I am a Certified Peer Specialist by the way working on an inpatient behavioral health unit at a local hospital. I offer hope by listening, sharing parts of my recovery story, leading groups and helping educate staff on the Recovery Model--how we need to change our whole outlook and approach in treating people who are admitted to our unit So much for that!
My wife (permanently separated for over 4 years) and I were missionaries in Africa for 6 years prior to being diagnosed as bipolar in 1997. We/I have 2 great kids. I live alone, and wish to become more involved with people who are passionate about life, are good communicators, spirituality is important to them and who love cross-cultural experiences OF ANY KIND (be it going out for good food, meeting people from different cultures or traveling somewhere together) --for now just penpals would be great. I do love adventure (even though I am getting older and presently out of shape, which I am working on), but undortunately do not have an over abundance of resources to travel around the world as I once did. I also enjoy concerts, theatre, movies, the gym and again gooood food. I love to laugh, experience new things and would like to find a friend someday who could experience these good times with me.
